Ibarra Verde: Human Ecology, El Buen Vivir and resilient mountain cityscapes
The evolutionary transition to the city impacts water, food, electricity, shelter and transport use. In the great Andean cityscapes, holistic quality of life, embodied in the ancestral concept of El Buen Vivir depends on Global-South-based approaches to big-data analysis of resource use. Project Ibarra-Verde uses interactive online mapping to overlay water and electricity use onto social, economic, cultural and ecological variables to reveal key factors that influence city growth and neighborhood design leading to “smart-city” planning in favor of El Buen Vivir.
